Voldemort had an amazing way of captivating people, it was one of his many strenghts.
"My lord, I don't know enough about love to fall into it with someone. I just do not wish to lose his skills for our side. That stupid Lily Evans keeps pulling him away and he knows to much. I would have to see him killed and his skills lost because I lost the fasade of closeness and thus my skills to manipulate him."
He looked up to the other - something the tall Malfoy had to do to very few.
"But I will do as you instruct."
